ABOUT FILMFEST

This is the first year for Filmfest Hermann, and we couldn't be more excited to debut this festival to highlight some of the great filmmakers from our region. The idea was started by two high school students who pitched it to the Half Act Theatre Company.

Filmfest has three film categories: 5-10 minute short films, 10-20 minute short films, and animated short films. Filmmakers have no content limitations except that they must provide a content warning if applicable.

EVENT SCHEDULE

Here's a quick look at what to expect from the festival. Doors open at 11 AM, and viewings begin at noon on Saturday, June 29th, at the Showboat Theatre.

Family Films

For the first portion of our festival, we'll be showing family-friendly films.

Films with Adult Content

After a 20 minute intermission, we'll be showing films with adult content for guests ages 18 and up. Content warnings will be provided.

Award Ceremony

After all films have been screened, we will award the winning films in each category.

Numb

Directed by

A 17-year-old girl has to learn how to deal with the loss of her mother. Watch as she learns how to grieve and accept her emotions while those around her start losing their patience.

This film was created for SkillsUSA Nationals for the Digital Cinema contest. We represented Missouri after getting first place in our state contest.
For this competition, we had to mimic the filmmaking styles of directors Steven Spielberg, Tony Scott, and Orson Wells. We only had one week to create the entire film.

Catskill Manor

A "haunted Airbnb" host decides to take matters into his own hands when his ghostly gimmicks aren't making the cut.

A girl finds an old telephone in an art gallery and pushes the redial button. She leaves a message, initiating a back and forth conversation of voicemails between her and the man on the other end of the line.

Why Try to Change Me Now

Directed by Marielle Morrow

Two women acting in a play together as lovers form a bond outside of rehearsals that swiftly becomes muddled due to their pasts, and relationships to their own identities.

Hearts Unveiled

Katie and Olivia, best friends since they were kids, have trouble transitioning into high school together with the distraction of boys and popularity. Katie has been spending too much time with a boy named Noah and Olivia feels jealous. Katie doesn't understand why she cares so much until her true feelings are revealed.

Look Closer

Maya, a psychiatrist, speaks to one of her patients about a recent experience involving a mysterious figure and the disappearance of his family. When she goes home, she starts to experience exactly what he described to her.

It Lurks

Directed by Bryant Barkley

A Man's relaxed evening is interrupted when a strange figure is discovered to be lurking outside. The doors are locked and the curtains are closed, but that can't stop what's coming.

Static

In Static, a man finds an old TV at a garage sale. Strangely, it is entirely free. The TV soon becomes alive of sorts and the force within the TV does a little trolling.

Trapped

In Trapped, a man decides to try and dissect a certain play, however in his efforts he encounters quite a few obstacles and soon becomes a part of something much larger.

The Suitcase Scheme

directed by Ben Weissenbach

The Suitcase Scheme is a satirical look at the action genre that was heavily inspired by the action movies of the late 70s and early 80s. Filmed in 6 hours in Rhineland, MO, it was shown in every classroom in Hermann High School upon release and has gained critical fame from Hermann locals.

I Know About Noah

This short follows a young woman who has been cheating on her abusive boyfriend. After a fight, the woman is seen spending time with another guy. Little do they know, her boyfriend has snuck back into the house...
